Born in 1971 Herbie was the first recorded Black and Tan Champion. Undoubtedly his color descends from Red Duster of Redlawn, Elel Spruce and Hunston Holy Smoke, himself a black and tan of the 50's back to Red Wraith, Tiny Tim of Biffin, and prick-ear Ch. Farndon Red Dog and Smudge.He was a dominant sire winning the the club stud trophy 5 times and siring 16 champions. As a singlton puppy with no full siblings his specific gene pool as a contribution to the breed is singular. There were 19 half siblings on his sire's side, only 4 of which were not Ragus bred and none were champions. There were 3 half siblings on his dam's side, all Ragus and none were champions. Herbie himself produced 76 litters, over half of which were only 1 and 2 puppy litters. He produced 18 champions with his most successful pairing to a Ch. Ready daughter, Ch. Ragus Brown Sugar producing 7 champions out of her.
