Historical Pedigree: Port Fortune The Ace

Bred in 1939 with an inbreeding coefficient of 11.5%, Ace was a singleton puppy with no full siblings. There were 39 half siblings on his sire's side and though there were several of consequence, only one was a champion: Eng. Ch. Tinker Bell. He had no half siblings on his dam's side. He was bred only 5 times and to 5 different bitches, among them Ch. Merry of Beaufin, the first American Drop Ear Champion bitch. Of Ace's 14 progeny, none achieved their title. Note the mixed ear carraige in this pedigree. He was bred by Miss M.S. Macfie and imported by Miss Jean Hinkle. It was said that he would have been "a sure champion in any terrier man's book, but for the war". Ace was known to sire black and tans.
