Historical Pedigree: Pax Of The Briars

Pax was bred in 1946 with an inbreeding coefficient of 9.4% as a singleton puppy with 1 full sibling. There were no half siblings attributed to him. He was bred only 3 times (twice to Veronica) to produce 5 offspring, 4 of which earned their championship titles. Roughrider Jones continued breeding back to Rags, buying puppies out of Ninety and litters from his friend Horace Cole, stud groom to the Master of the Norwich Staghounds. Horace Cole bred his wire-haired terrier bitch to a Trumpington. The puppies were always red. His daughter, Mrs. Rosie Panks bred Pax of the Briars, sire of the great English-American Champion Farndon Randolph, and Foxybrook Gene, dam of English-American Champion Ragus Goodfellow. Both have had a tremendous influence on the American Prick ear Norwich. The lasting Farndon influence on American Norwich prick ear breeders was established when Pax Of The Briars and his three sons migrated in the late '40s. Pax was bought by Mr. Robert Honeyman of Philadelphia. When Pax’s first litter was born he (Pax) somehow found the litter and killed them all. Mr. Honeyman was so angry he gave Pax to Mr. Thomas, the then Huntsman to the Radnor Hounds. When Mr. Thomas gave up hunting hounds he took to training race horses and took Pax with him and the old dog was well known around the race track.
